Provider Authorization Message
"[STATE] PMP requires authorization and this request was denied. Details: ..."
This message indicates that an end user has failed provider auth. If provider authorization has failed, any data returned from a user's home state and any destination states will not be returned.
If the provider authorization message displays a state name other than your home state, confirm that the facility state code in the request is your home state. You may need the assistance of your software vendor to confirm.
General Information
Provider Authorization is a feature enabled in Gateway that will search a PMP AWARxE site to find an active matching user before providing any prescription data.
An AWARxE password reset or incorrect credentials do not affect provider auth. Only the existence of an account in the state PMP that is approved, active, and contains one or more of the provided identifiers in the provider's request.
Provider Authorization only applies to report requests from a provider searching their home state's AWARxE database via Gateway. It does not apply to the first call in a two call request (PatientRequests or NarxScoreRequests) or to out of state requests. As such the patient requests will return data or a report link. When a report request is sent, you will get denied because you were unable to be authorized.
Provider Authorization Requirements
User accounts in the home state PMP must be active (not pending or deactivated), as determined by one of the following; in order:
- DEA Number
- NPI Number
- State License Number
