General Information
Effective 12/7/2022, the Iowa Board of Pharmacy will enable the Provider Authorization function.
This feature ensures that any in-state prescriber or pharmacist (pharmacist) accessing the Iowa PMP via PMP Gateway has an active Iowa PMP AWARxE user account with valid licensing information.
To meet the Provider Authorization functionality requirements, prescribers (including medical residents) or pharmacists who access the Iowa PMP via PMP Gateway need to ensure the following:
- Have an active user account with Iowa PMP AWARxE
- PMP Gateway requests must include one or more of the following identifiers:
- DEA
- NPI
- State Professional License Number along with the provider's or pharmacist’s name and role.
- With the Provider Authorization feature enabled, the identifier used for the provider or pharmacist in the PMP Gateway request must match at least one of the identifiers used in that provider's or pharmacist's Iowa PMP AWARxE user account.
